How to Write a Book
Report
In order to do a book report you need to gather
your ideas and follow the following steps:
-
Choosing a Book- When choosing a book you need to pick a book
that interests you so you can comprehend to its main ideas. If you pick a book that you have no interest in you will have
difficulties enjoying the book and your book report will have no
positive points.
-
Reading Your Book- Once you have chose a book that interests
you find a quiet place to read and bring a notebook.
The notebook will be very handy to write down notes about
your book. When reading your
book do not over read. Read to a limit that you are comfortable with
and stop. Do not leave your
book unread for a long period of time because you may forget the
main ideas of the story.
-
Outlining- When outlining you need to gather important
elements that will help you organize the outline.
These are some important elements to look at:
Setting (where does the story take place, or how is it
described?), Main Characters (who is the story mainly about
and how are they described?), Period of Time (tell your
audience if this story is in the present day or in the past),
Plot (pick only the most important events because
you do not want to tell every single detail), Your Opinion
(tell how the story affected you by the authors descriptions of
characters, his/her writing style, the mood of the novel, etc)
-
Final Report- Before
you start your Final Report you need to write a draft. A draft is a
written paper that gathers all your ideas and your outline to begin
your final paper. Your draft
does not have to be fancy, but it does need to contain all the
elements in the outline described above.
Once you have your draft done your final report will be easy.
Use your draft as the main outline for your final paper. Make sure
all your revisions and errors are corrected. When your paper is done
you may either type or hand write it.
Typing your paper will be much easier for you and your
teacher (it will also look very neat).
In a book report the plot is a very important
essential to building block to your book report. Remember to explain the
conflict with the main character is she/he trying to accomplish or
overcome something, also include some other important things that happen
to the character as he or she tries to overcome or achieve their goals
within the story. Finally,
finish by making sure you give your reader a sneak-peek at the ending
but don’t give it away.
It is not difficult to learn how to write a book
report, just take your time. The first one make take longer but
after that it will be easy.
